Aptitude Design & Build has completed several renovations throughout this St. Charles home over the years, including updates to the kitchen, deck, and bathrooms. This featured project highlights a recent bathroom remodel designed to complement the home’s clean, minimalist aesthetic while still creating warmth and visual interest within the space.

One of the primary design challenges was maintaining the simplicity and clean lines associated with minimalist interiors without allowing the bathroom to feel cold or overly sterile. The design team focused on introducing natural materials and thoughtful textures to create a space that feels both modern and inviting.

A Teak Accent Wall Adds Warmth and Character

One of the defining features of the renovation is the custom teak wood accent wall, which introduces warmth, texture, and a distinctive architectural element within the otherwise minimal design palette.

The teak wall creates a strong visual focal point while balancing the clean surfaces and streamlined finishes throughout the bathroom. The natural wood tones help soften the modern design and add depth without overwhelming the simplicity of the space.

Reworking the Layout for Better Functionality

The remodel also focused on improving the functionality and openness of the bathroom layout.

The original bathtub was removed and replaced with a spacious walk-in shower, creating a more open and efficient use of the available square footage. A floating bench seat was incorporated into the shower design, adding both comfort and a lighter visual appearance that helps the room feel larger.
