Open Design Kitchen Remodel

Modern Kitchen Remodel with a Light, Open Design

In this recent kitchen renovation, Aptitude Design & Build worked with homeowners eager to lighten, modernize, and open up their space for better flow and functionality. Having completed several projects with this same layout before, Aptitude’s team came in with a clear sense of the design opportunities—and an understanding of what might be hidden behind the walls. This insight helped minimize the construction timeline while ensuring a seamless transformation.

The clients’ main goals were to brighten the kitchen, add a large island for entertaining, and integrate a small bar area with open shelving for glassware and drinks. The final design brought all of these features together beautifully, creating a space that feels expansive, balanced, and welcoming.

A few key design highlights include:

  1. A statement island – The oversized island anchors the kitchen and provides ample space for cooking, serving, and socializing.
  2. Bar area with hanging glass shelving – One of the homeowners’ favorite features, the floating glass shelves add a light, elegant touch rarely seen in traditional kitchen builds.
  3. Relocated sink for better flow – By moving the sink to a central location accessible from either side, the layout now supports easy conversation and movement during gatherings.
  4. Open glass-front cabinetry – These upper cabinets draw the eye upward, emphasizing the home’s tall ceilings and giving the kitchen a sense of height and grandeur.

Aptitude’s design team carefully balanced aesthetics with practicality, ensuring each element worked harmoniously with the home’s proportions and the family’s lifestyle. The end result is a kitchen that feels both spacious and intimate—perfect for everyday living and effortless entertaining.
