Expanded Bathroom Remodel in Older St. Louis Home

Bathroom Renovation in St. Louis | Expanded Primary Bathroom with Custom Vanity Design

The goal of this bathroom renovation project was to update two existing bathrooms while making thoughtful improvements that would support the homeowners’ current needs without limiting future renovation possibilities.

Like many older homes, the original primary bathroom was relatively small and lacked efficient use of space. One of the main priorities of the renovation was improving functionality while creating a layout that felt more open, comfortable, and practical for everyday use.

Expanding the Primary Bathroom Layout

To create additional space within the primary bathroom, Aptitude Design & Build incorporated a nearby hallway closet into the new layout. This allowed the team to significantly improve the functionality of the room without requiring a major structural addition.

The updated floor plan also involved relocating the toilet and vanity to create a more efficient layout and accommodate a double-bowl vanity. These adjustments improved circulation throughout the bathroom while also creating additional storage and counter space.

The shower was also expanded, giving the room a more spacious and comfortable feel overall.

Custom Cabinetry and Timeless Design Details

One of the standout design features in the renovation is the use of inset cabinetry doors and drawers, a style that has become increasingly popular for homeowners seeking a more refined and custom appearance.

The inset cabinetry adds subtle architectural detail and craftsmanship while helping the bathroom feel timeless rather than trend-driven.

Throughout the renovation, the design team focused on balancing functionality, aesthetics, and long-term flexibility so the bathrooms would continue to serve the homeowners well over time.

Designed for Both Present and Future Needs

Rather than overbuilding or making changes that could complicate future renovations, Aptitude Design & Build approached the project with a thoughtful, long-term perspective.

The finished bathrooms now provide:

  • Improved layout and circulation
  • Expanded shower space
  • Double vanity functionality
  • Increased storage and usability
  • Timeless cabinetry details
  • Flexibility for future updates

This project demonstrates how strategic layout changes and carefully considered design decisions can significantly improve the comfort and functionality of smaller bathrooms while preserving long-term adaptability for the home.
